TAKE ACTION: Our public lands are under attack, find out more here

From our grand jewels like the Cuyahoga Valley National Park and Wayne National Forest, to our smaller state parks and preserves, Ohio boasts some of the most beautiful parks, preserves, and forests in the country.

But Ohio’s natural, open spaces continue to be exploited and overused. Such exploitation can have a devastating and lasting impact on Ohio’s environmental and human health. Ohio’s natural bounty is not endless, and its natural legacy is not timeless.

Recent Victories

The OEC maintains a watchful eye on Ohio’s public lands. Among our recent victories, we have:

  • Stopped a fracking lease sale of thousands of acres of Wayne National Forest land;
  • Stopped a fracking lease sale of Blue Rock State Park;
  • Killed a legislative proposal that would have opened most state lands to forced leasing;
  • Secured the closure of a road through sensitive habitat for a state-endangered species;
  • Protected the Shawnee State Forest Backcountry as a specially designated area.
